Mikes Memorial House
Orbai chair Zagon Str. Principala Nr. 128/a, Zagon, Jud. Covasna
Nowadays, the mansion is hosting a cultural institution and a museum. The memorial exhibitions organized here are commemorating the lives and works of Kelemen Mikes, Vilmos Csutak, Manyi Kiss and Géza Domokos.
The former granary was turned into a guesthouse.
1632, as well as the initials B:M and E:D are there to prove that the building was already there in the 17th century. This building is regarded as the parental house of Kelemen Mikes (1690-1762), who was exiled to Turkey. Indeed, the mansion used to be in his ownership up until its confiscation, and it was assigned to the Szentkereszty family later on.
In a late 19th century photo there is a small onion-shaped cupola on the top shingle-covered covered verandah of the mansion. As a result of the reconstruction works during Zsigmond Szentkereszty, the mansion was given its present-day form, yet its oblong block and the double roof have preserved the style of the 17-18th centuries. However, the smaller entrance right in the middle of the facade was replaced with a pillared verandah.
